Response to OAK Community

Dear OAK Community,

With the rapidly evolving news about the impacts that the novel coronavirus will have on our communities and our healthcare system, we want to reach out with an update. OAK is here to support you and we are thinking about all of you in this unusual time. The coming weeks will pose a growing challenge that is likely to affect our farms, farming families and communities, and as an organization we have an opportunity to work together to respond as best we can.

OAK staff will continue working on educational programming and will be a resource for farmers in our network. We already work remotely and are following guidance from the Center for Disease Control on social distancing and hygiene to keep ourselves, our families and communities as healthy as possible. We’ve cancelled or postponed immediate public events, and we are prepared to make future scheduling changes as needed. Please note that our Lexington and Louisville CSA Fairs will now be combined into a VIRTUAL Kentucky CSA Fair. The April Farmer Field Day will be rescheduled to later in the season. Keep an eye out for farmer call-in meetings to discuss farming through the coronavirus pandemic, specific challenges, resources and adaptations.

Knowing that everyone still needs to eat, that farmers continue to care for crops and livestock and that many of these small businesses rely on active weekly markets, we have decided to increase the promotion of the OAK Find-A-Farm Directory now through May. We are reaching out to OAK members at the Family Farming level (or up) with a profile in the Directory to request updates to your farm’s content, and we will add new categories for: home delivery, special orders, on-farm pickups, market cards and more. People need healthy food now more than ever so our goal is to highlight locally-grown foods and encourage Kentuckians to connect directly with farms, and to make plans should farmers markets close. Visit the Find-A-Farm Directory here: and contact us if you would like to join the directory.

This national emergency will have deep and lasting impacts on parts of our farming community, so we are working with many in our network to identify the best ways to continue providing support. Please reach out to us to let us know what you need at or 502-219-7378. Together we will get through this.

Take good care and be well.
