Profitable Diversification for Small-Scale Organic FarmingHollow Oak Farm, Berry KY -- May 19, 2026 -- 1 - 4 pm ETAs first-generation farmers, Julie and Jeremiah Muth are building Hollow Oak Farm from the ground up - raising grass-finished beef and pastured pork and poultry, growing produce and creating value-added products while learning in real time what it takes to make a farm sustainable. In the process, the Muths have learned how diversifying their small-scale Harrison County farm plays a major role in building resilience into their farm business. Join this OAK Field Day - geared toward new/aspiring and organic-curious farmers - to learn about Julie and Jeremiah’s journey managing multiple enterprises, spreading risk across different revenue streams and working toward organic certification. They’ll share challenges and how they’re facing them: balancing passion with profitability, managing the workload as a small team, avoiding diversification burnout and making marketing decisions that support the farm’s goals and bottom line. Visit Hollow Oak’s high tunnels, market garden and rotationally-grazed pastures and systems for poultry, pigs and cattle. The USDA's Midwest Transition to Organic Partnership Program provided support for this event. OAK's Farmer Education program is supported by the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund (KADF). Registration fees are waived for this event; registration is required.
