Reducing Risk, Expanding Markets and Building Community

Magney Legacy Ridge Farm, Princeton, KY -- May 5, 2026 -- 1 - 4 pm Central Time

Magney Legacy Ridge Farm is a family-run, sustainable market farm in Lyon County, serving 11 counties of western Kentucky with two acres of organically-grown produce since 2012. Angela and Ray Magney and their crew provide fresh food to their community through an online farmers market and community-supported agriculture (CSA) shares. Through a growing regional farmer collective, their farm also offers local eggs, meats and specialty items from partner farms. With such a wide customer base and diversity of products, Magney Legacy Ridge Farm’s commitment to produce safety is paramount to their success and integral to their values.

In partnership with the Kentucky Horticulture Council (KHC), this OAK Field Day will highlight on-farm best practices and resources for produce safety, including agricultural water testing, risk assessment, sanitation and hygiene, and recent updates to food safety regulations that affect small farms. Angela Magney will highlight the farm’s post-harvest handling and storage practices, a newly-upgraded packshed and walk-in cooler and the practical applications of a farm food safety plan. KHC’s Dakota Moore will expand on aspects of packshed design for food safety and efficiency, demonstrate multiple options for low-cost, portable on-farm handwashing stations and share funding and resources available to all Kentucky farms for produce safety and on-farm water management.

Join this FIeld Day to tour production tools and cropping systems in Magney Legacy Ridge Farm's two acres of production in four high tunnels, greenhouse and crop beds; learn from Angela and partner farms how CSAs and collaboration can boost market opportunities and engage with peer farmers for continued networking and learning.

Note: Horticulture producers and employees who live or work in one of the 75 Kentucky counties in the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) region or the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) region may qualify for reimbursement for event registration and travel through the KY GreenWorks Project; details are included in the registration form.
